Evaluation Activity 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Constructing Audience
For our film, we decided that we were going to aim it at the audience that are at the age between 18-24 years. The reason why we decided that we were going to aim it at the audience of this age is because they may be unemployed, students at college (three times a week) and also those that have part time jobs (casual worker). So because of the reasons above, we think it would be best suited for this age as they would probably have time to sit with friends (for example) and watch films. The gender that we decided to aim our film at was males as they would probably be more into the types of films that we produce, however females can watch it if they choose to. Another reason why we decided that we were going to aim our film at 18-24 year old because we feel that we would receive more views than other ages.
Psychographics:
People within our target audience mainly like to go out and socialise with the friends, which is why we decided to choose 18-24 as our target audience. Also because our film is a horror release they may like to go to the cinema within their group of friends and watch the film. It may also interest them more also because there is teenagers involved within the film, which will get the audience more involved. The music that we used builds up tension, whilst the music is playing it gets the audience thinking about whats going to happen.
After we had completed our horror opening sequence, we decided to create a questionnaire to see if people could give us feedback to see if there was anything that we needed to change/add to the opening to see if it could be improved. The people that we asked were other people in our media studies group and also the people within the year 13 media group. Below is a copy of a questionnaire that we handed out.

Questionnaire:
2. Is there enough characters?
3. Is the music suitable for the opening?
4. Would you continue to watch this film?
5. Does the editing work? (Effects)
6. How would you end the opening sequence?
7. How would you improve it?
8. What works well?
Questionnaire Results Summary:
Question 1: Does the horror relate to an actual horror film?
Some of the feedback that we received from other students is that the music at the beginning of the opening sequence did not very well, seemed more like a comedy type of film; however they said when the music was combined with the rest of sequence, it worked well.
Question 2: Is there enough characters?
Most of the people that we asked thought that there were enough characters used throughout our opening sequence and because there was a good use of characters it helped to create a tense atmosphere as it show that there is nobody around to help the victim.
Question 3: Is the music suitable for the opening?
Despite the people that said the music that we used was not horror related, most others that watched our opening scene said that the music worked well with opening because it was a contrast to the second part of the film.
Question 4: Would you continue to watch the film?
A majority of the viewers said that they would continue to watch the film; however there were several of viewers that said they would not continue watching the film after watching the opening sequence.
Question 5: Does the editing work? (Effects)
All the people that watched our opening sequence said that there was good use of editing, such as the blurry vision effect we used to show that the victim (Dalian) did not know where he was. The viewers aid that the effects that we used helped out to make the film better.
Question 6: How would you end the opening sequence?
People that watched the opening sequence said that we should keep the ending the same, as they said the fading out of the victim screaming works really well.
Question 7: How would you improve it?
Many people that watched the opening said that the beginning of the sequence (baseball bat scene) should be re-filmed, but more important; the soundtrack used should be changed to suit the horror genre.
Question 8: What works well?
The majority of the audience that watched our opening said that the drinking scene at the beginning was effective and when the victim (Dalian) wakes up in the abandoned room.
Changes the group made, after feedback.
After we got feedback from other members of our class and also other media studies groups within the 6th form, we decided that we were going to make a few adjustments to our horror film. We also added important things that needed to be added to our production. At the beginning of our horror title/opening sequence, we had to add our production company name and also our logo. Towards the end of our production we had to change some of the voices/laughs that the characters were making. The reason why we had to change this is because the laugh the doctor had made sounded unusual, so we decided that we were going to take out the laugh of the doctor and replace it with the victim shouting in pain. This needed to be changed because the audience would then have a better understanding on what was actually going on. The music within the title sequence also had to be changed, the reason we had to change the music at the begining is because it did not fit in with the horror genre, it sounded more of a comedy. Also in the title sequence we changed the time it took for the attacker to catch up with his victim. The reason why we needed to change this is because the audience would want to see what happens next alot quicker and within a film, the time it took before we edited, the audience would have been waiting a bit longer.

good Dabvid, you need to add what changes you made to your film as a result of your feedback as you made several alterations after your audience had watched it.
